The Turtles...
For our final night together, we braved the cool evening chill in the hope of catching a glimpse of a marine turtle coming onto the beach to lay her eggs. That night, we were in luck, as a mother, on her first time at Mon Repos, laid 93 eggs before our very own eyes! We were in even more luck when she had laid the eggs to close to the water and the needed to be relocated further up into the dunes. It was a special moment for all of our Big Lifters to hold tiny newborn life in their hands!
"Mon Repos is a remarkable simile to our journey. The turtles go through hours of tiring effort to head towards the dunes, dig the perfect hole, lay their eggs, fill the hole and then head back to the ocean only to complete the cycle again in two weeks. After all that effort and hard work, something beautiful then emerges from the sand. Hatchlings!After all of the time and effort we put into the communities, we made an incredible change and the smiles on all the community members faces were all full with gratitude, much like the smiles on the faces of the turtle viewers. From service projects to Mon Repos, each part of this journey has been magical and proves that with time, effort and perserverance something memorable can be achieved."
