The Floods...
We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to truly immerse ourselves into the community, by splitting into small groups of 3-5 and helping out residents with their clean up and gardening. Between our many groups, we restored and mulched the Old Surgery's front garden's, weeded out backyards for vegie patches, cleaned out old shed's and were given local and personal tours of the area.
In 2011, Theodore was devastatingly flooded. Three times. The damage is still being felt almost a year on! Upon our arrival in November, the local Petrol Station had only been re-opened a week ago! We truly realised the extent of the damage when local resident Veronica shared with us a meaningful slideshow of images from the floods.
Theodore's resilience and spirit also shone through. This small town rebuilt itself back up, and it was our pleasure to help out in the small time we were there.

The Projects...
"It amazes me that as I write this, we have successfully completed all of our service projects. Right now, we are about twenty minutes out of Theodore and I have never been so proud of young people in my life."
- Michael Attard, QUT Big Lift President

Camping out in the Theodore Recreational Hall reinforced our sense of camaraderie and was perfect for absorbing the countryside. Despite working in the heat all morning, our sprits never faltered as we saw the tangible outcomes of our efforts. We are all now very well acquainted with gardening tools!
The people of Theodore were so welcoming and appreciative, but the pleasure was all ours. We were treated to a large BBQ feast with fresh salad and fruit. Sharing a meal was the perfect opportunity to really get to each other, and we will have familiar faces when we return!
